Our Founding & Forever Mission Partner

The Partnership of Ronald McDonald House Charities and McDonald's

Ronald McDonald House Charities is a global charity founded in 1974 in the USA as a result of the foresight of an oncologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr Audrey Evans envisioned a place where families could live and get proper rest away from the ward while their children were undergoing treatment. Funds to build the first House were raised by the local McDonald’s restaurant and in exchange for their support was named ‘Ronald McDonald House’.

The first Ronald McDonald House in Australia was opened in Camperdown, NSW in 1981. In 1991, Ronald McDonald House Charities ACT & South East NSW opened it’s House in Canberra in 2012, providing a ‘home away from home’ for families with ill & injured children in ACT Hospitals.

Here in Canberra and across south east NSW, McDonald’s Licensees and their crew across the region are active and passionate supporters of families cared for by RMHC ACT & SE NSW.

Each year, our local McDonald’s Licensees and employees demonstrate an extraordinary support for RMHC ACT & SE NSW sick kids and their families through additional support of the Gala Ball, Meet the Makers, Car Raffle, Meals from the Heart and through workplace giving.

Why we need other support

While McDonald’s remains our largest corporate partner, Ronald McDonald House Charities ACT & SE NSW is an independent charity that relies on the generosity of many to keep our programs running and growing across the country.

Every donation, every hour volunteered, and every act of support—whether from individuals, community groups, or businesses large and small—helps us keep families close when they need it most.
